Review: Netflix's Mank (2020)
In this episode, Jared and Linda review David Fincher’s latest movie, Mank. Spider-Man 3’s casting….well, let’s just say that it is both confusing and exciting. For television news, iCarly is getting a reboot over on Paramount Plus. The show, which went off air in 2012, is getting a fresh coat of paint. The original cast, including Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress are returning for the reboot. Finally, Edgewood, a Marcus Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska, has been placed for sale just this past week; though, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the theatre won’t operate once the market returns to normal after being tanked by the COVID-19 pandemic
Warner Bros.' Unprecedented Decision
In this episode, Jared and Linda return to their normal weekly discussions about the entertainment industry! HBO Max is being shipped Warner Brothers' full slate of feature films for the calendar year of 2021, a move that is unprecedented. Some of the films included are: Dune, The Suicide Squad, The Matrix 4, and Godzilla vs. Kong. The slate of 17 films will be made available the same day that they release in U.S. theaters. Notably, HBO Max is a service that is only available in the U.S. currently.
Short Film Review: 'Ghost Searchers' (2020)
Neil George’s Ghost Searchers can be accurately described by the phrase, “short-film delight.” The blend of the supernatural makeup over its dry, comedic inclinations is endlessly intriguing. However, the film’s main hurdle — and where it falters most — is fusing the uneven writing with the natural energy that the cast creates.
Review: ‘Occurrence at Mills Creek' (2020)
Swanson’s feature film succeeds at evoking subliminal emotions from viewers. It, certainly, is a step-up from his pervious work, and excites me for the future of his filmmaking career. It’s clear that there is a vision from the director — at the heart of Occurrence at Mills Creek is emotional resonance. Much like A Wish for Giants, the film urges viewers to reflect on their own feelings and encourages empathy.

In addition to the news, the team review the new Halloween Kills teaser trailer and the Welcome to the Blumhouse collection of four films (Nocturne, The Lie, Black Box, and Evil Eye) that are now streaming on Amazon Prime.

The team also touch on the Nick Fury series coming to Disney+ and how likely it is that we will see a young Nick Fury. Did you catch the new trailer for The Haunting of Bly Manor on Netflix? Jared and Linda did, and they LOVED it. In addition, how are the theaters handling a very delicate exhibition market? Well, some of the regional cinemas here in Nebraska have begun closing their doors again. It is a trend we are likely to see more of in the coming months.

Well, the box office certainly indicates a struggling exhibition market. Mulan underperformed in China, only receiving a grand total of $23 million in its opening weekend. With the most recent news that Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984 would be pushed back, insiders and movie theaters are bracing for a rough fall.
Review: ‘We Are the Missing' (2020)
The story manages to take many twists and turns among its run-time without feeling too contrived or needless. For those of you familiar with mockumentaries, this will certainly be comparable to any great film within the genre. Perhaps, even more exciting if you’re a fan of horror.
Oscar Eligibility Rules, Scream 5 Cast Revealed, and More
Jared and Linda discuss, at length, the Scream 5 casting news: Sidney is BACK. In additional to all the Scream goodies, they also cover the stipulations of the new Academy eligibility requirements set to take full effect in 2024. Host director, Rob Savage, has signed a three-picture deal with Jason Blum's Blumhouse. The new Candyman has been indefinitely delayed, and, in a shocking anouncement, AMC's The Walking Dead is set to end after 11 seasons.

How awful can a simple camera test be? Well, if you’ve ever been in front of the camera you may be accustomed to just how tedious it can be. Even for someone excited about acting — perhaps a career professional — the sheer thought of just standing around sounds horrific. In that regard, Camera Test Subject does evoke that same feeling that many in the industry are familiar with.

DC FanDome, Weekend Box Office, and More
This week, Jared and Linda discuss the success of DC FanDome’s virtual convention. Compared to other virtual events (we are looking at you, SDCC), it was a smashing success in audience reception and viewership. The team provides and update on The New Mutants’ box office projections/previews, and talk about The Thing adaptation moving forward from Universal and Blumhouse. And, as a bonus, they probably spend an exorbitant amount of time discussing Scream 5’s new release date. That is a guess, because I (Jared) write these things way ahead of time.

Short Film Review: 'We Die Alone' (2020)
There are only four billed cast members in We Die Alone, and at just under 24 minutes it ran the risk of a jagged pace and uneven storytelling. Or worse: just being flat out boring. However, the script’s structure is practically flawless; as every single frame is tonally consistent with each bend in the narrative.

Short Film Review: 'The Fall Line' (2020)
The Fall Line is the directorial debut from Maryann Lonergan - who also wrote and edited the film. We’ve gotten a number of submissions from the Pratt Institute recently (Tiptoe and The Jungle of Accounting), and each one has been nothing less than exceptional. I personally appreciate the amount of versatility among the filmmakers; each short has an entirely different tonal palette.
