The level of excitement going into this movie was through the roof. And let me be the first to tell you, Black Panther will not disappoint.
T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman), the newly crowned King of Wakanda, must prove himself as the rightful heir to the throne after the untimely death of his father. He must protect the culture of his beloved country and determine the path forward for his people. Of course, saving the world comes with obstacles; Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) and Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) make for the perfect counter to King T'Challa.
Other cast members include Danai Gurira (Okoye), whom fans may recognize as Michonne from The Walking Dead, Daniel Kaluuya (W'Kabi), Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia), and last but certainly not least, Letitia Wright (Shuri). The natural flow of chemistry never ceases to amaze me in most Marvel films and the members of Wakanda do feel like one unified force. Perhaps the most impressive aspect in the film comes from the dynamic between T'Challa and Killmonger. It's simply one of the strongest Marvel rivalries in recent memory; they are both deeply cemented in their morals. When I left the theatre I wanted to see future interactions between those characters.
There is one downfall to the film: the CGI. In some instances I was baffled by the handling of the effects. Some scenes looked very clunky and non organic, and in a couple instances, virtually anyone could point out the green-screen. However, those minor flaws are negligible when reviewing a movie with high quality characters and storytelling and more-than-competent action. Seriously, when people say Black Panther feels like a James Bond movie they are not lying in the least bit. And writer-director Ryan Coogler sprinkles some visually stunning sequences in the mix here-and-there.
If you are looking for something to do over the weekend, this film provides a pleasant viewing experience that goes by all too quick; Black Panther clocks-in at just over 2 hours. As of right now, Marvel looks to be in one of their best years yet. With Avengers: Infinity War around the corner, Black Panther provides the thirst-quench Marvel fans needed before the big showdown. And hey, that Ant-Man and the Wasptrailer wasn't bad either.
